The Obituary of Our Beloved


Chinwe Evelyn Odeluga was born in July 31, 1952 in Enterprise, Alabama to Ms. Louis Donald and Chukwudebelu N. Odeluga, a graduate student at New York State University from the Igbo Nation of present day Nigeria. She grew up in Enterprise were she obtained her primary education before moving to New York with her mother to attend High School. She graduated early from the New York public school system in 1967 at the age of 15.


She subsequently pursued various careers reflecting her passion for literature, writing, poetry and modeling. In all she demonstrated early, a deep love for writing and poetry which led her to obtain a Bachelors of Science degree in Mass communication from Texas Woman’s University.  

Since moving to Texas in 1978, she has been a resident of Austin for the most part. Chinwe E. Odeluga distinguished herself as a filmmaker, poet, and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and women’s health activist. She created, directed and produced the video, “Poetic Healings” and other creative writings and poems publish and unpublished.  She was active in the Austin literary circles and served in the Austin Arts Commission Literature Advisory Panel.

Chinwe, despite her many health challenges, joined and became active in Imani Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Jacquelyn Donald-Mims where she served as a Trustee Board Member, Greeter & Usher, Power Hour Bible Study, Sunday School, Outreach Substance Abuse Counselor, Church History teacher for “New Members Orientation” and “Baptism Workshop” and in various other capacities in the lay ministry of the church.  Chinwe requested a rededication of her life in Christ which was celebrated in a “Baptism Remembrance” in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her father Chukwudebelu N. Odeluga, mother Louise Donald and sister Trywa Watson. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Ndukwe, Nkemdilim, Okechukwu, Tagbo, Kanayo, Chinelo, Chinemelu and Ifeoma; her nephew Ajene Watson and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces both in Nigeria and US.
